Stephen R. Bokenkamp, Ph.D is a Professor of Chinese in the School of International Letters and Cultures and the Religious Studies Department at the Arizona State University.
He received his Ph.D. in 1986 from the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied with Professors Michel Strickmann and Edward H. Schafer.
His area of specialization is Chinese religion and literature from the first through the tenth centuries.
He is the author of “Early Daoist Scriptures, Ancestors ”, “Anxiety: Daoism and the Birth of Rebirth in China”, and numerous other works on medieval Chinese religion and literature.
